Fourth Workshop on CUTTING EDGE RESEARCH ON HEALTH INEQUITIES: CONCEPTS AND METHODS

About the workshop
The five-day workshop will take place from 6th to 11th August 2018. The aim of this workshop is to inspire public health researchers and activists to engage with research on health inequities in India.
A team of 10-12 experienced resource persons from India will facilitate the workshop. Participatory learning methods and interactive lectures will be used for the most part. Registered participants will be sent pre-workshop course materials to read before the workshop.
Proposed structure of the workshop
The workshop will consist of four clusters:
- First cluster will introduce participants to conceptual frameworks for examining health inequities;
- Second cluster aims to expose participants to methods in researching and measuring health inequities, using quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods;
- Third cluster is designed to provide participants an opportunity to learn about perspectives that shape research questions, methods chosen, and use of health inequities research through interaction with diverse resource persons who combine research with advocacy or activism; and
- Fourth cluster is intended to help participants apply the skills that they have been exposed to, during the workshop.
Who can apply?
Researchers & activists with prior research experience and interest in inequities in health by gender, caste, economic position, and /or health issues of socially marginalized and vulnerable sections of the population.
The number of places available for the workshop is twenty-five (25). A screening committee will screen the applications and select the final list of participants.
No course fees will be charged for participating in this workshop. Candidates selected for the workshop will be covered for boarding and lodging costs during the workshop and costs of course materials. Travel costs will have to be met by the participants. A small number (3-4) of travel fellowships to a maximum of Rs. 5000/- are available and will be allocated on the basis of need.
