‘Hotspots’ are areas with high cumulative environmental burdens and high social vulnerability. Using an index-based approach, the paper attempts to assess the multiple burdens and benefits in combination with vulnerability factors at an intra-urban level in the city of Dortmund, Germany. Using non-spatial and spatial methods, ‘hotspots’ were identified and they found strong geographical patterns in inequalities at the detailed intra-urban level.
